howdy!

here’s a bit about lil’ ol’ me…

Nature has been a source of solace and inspiration for me; its sights, its sounds, but most of all, its silences. A walk through a wooded park with no sounds but the wordless whispers of the wind and melodious birdsong is all I need to reconnect and reconfigure my sense of place in the world.

My fascination with birds began one quiet summer morning as I sat in the gentle dawn breeze drifting through the open window in my living room. Suddenly, I heard the sweetest birdsong—a cheerful "feeeeebeeeee!"—and my heart skipped a beat. It was then that I discovered my spark bird, the black-capped chickadee. I started spending the early hours of the morning every day watching the chickadee at my window, getting to know its various calls, behaviors, and watching it zip from the bird feeder to the shrubbery. That tiny, spunky, curious little thing has since held my heart captive!

Thanks to the chickadee who serenaded me that morning, I've learned to pay close attention to the lives of the wildlife that inhabit our backyards and local parks. The more I watch, the more I learn about how different lives are lived. Most profoundly, I’ve come to appreciate just how much can be communicated in silence. Birds and other wildlife have so much wisdom to offer if we learn to “listen”!
